Gap Analysis of Marine Ecosystem Data

The NOAA Gap Analysis of Marine Ecosystem Data developed a geospatial database for eight National Park units in the Caribbean and Pacific oceans. NOAA conducted a gap analysis for a standard suite of information useful for managing marine resources. The objectives of the project were to:

  1. Identify and synthesize available biological, physical and socioeconomic datasets in a spatial format relevant to marine resource management for each park unit and organize the data into a common GIS geodatabase framework;
  2. Develop a web-based mapping and database portal to provide access to the data and metadata; and
  3. Identify additional data needs (information gaps) to support marine resource monitoring and management.

The data are available on IRMA (see links below) and through a mapping portal.
