Data Management

Any planning process is greatly benefitted by the use of accurate, relevant, and timely scientific data. This is one reason that in 2011 the Information Management function of the Water Resources Division was combined with the Planning program in the Planning and Information Branch.

An essential function of data management is Vital Signs Monitoring. Park vital signs are physical, chemical, and biological elements and processes of park ecosystems that represent the overall health or condition of a park. Vital signs monitoring is designed to inform managers of the condition and trends of resources—in this case, water resources. This wealth of scientific information supports many applications for management decision-making and understanding of park resources.
