Waccasassa Bay State Preserve
Waccasassa Bay State Preserve provides an extensive, undisturbed example of the coastal ecosystems that occur in northern Florida with the unique addition of the mangrove community. The entire transition from mangrove to saltmarsh to brackish marsh to freshwater marsh to hardwood hammock forest is superbly demonstrated here. Diversity of biota is very high and the area serves as habitat for at least three threatened or endangered species.
